Partisan Impeachment does violence to the Constitution
I am profoundly saddened by the dangerous precedent set by the Democrats in the House of Representatives. By impeaching President Trump along a party line vote, Nancy Pelosi and her co-conspirators have crossed the Rubicon and there will be no turning back.
Just as Hamilton warned in Federalist 65, partisan impeachment is dangerous and deeply corrosive to the foundations of representative democracy. When America chose a republican form of government, we traded the sword for the ballot box, power for persuasion, force for consent.
Yesterday’s action rolls back that consent and weakens our social contract, the glue that allows 350 million people to coexist peacefully despite our extraordinary diversity of cultures, traditions, faiths, and beliefs.
I shudder at the implications of this short-sighted and vile act of attempting to use administrative power to undo the will of the people as expressed through our democrat process.
Please stand with me as I stand with President Trump.
Evil will prosper only when good people do nothing.
